My story began at sixteen years old. I was just hired by the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA). This was a United States federal law enacted by the Congress, and signed into law by President Richard Nixon on December 28, 1973, to train workers and provide them with jobs in the public service.
With my work papers in one hand and a grin across my face that could brighten up the darkest day. I was about to tutor my first elementary school-age child. Little did I know that day would lead to a life of personal and professional public service.
After two decades of volunteering in the community, Pausing With God Ministries was birthed. This non-profit went outside of the church walls to challenge women to turn their weakness into strength and use their gifts and talents to make a difference in their life, their family, and their community.
Our board members and I are excited about the journey up ahead as we continue to encourage women to recognize the who, what, where and why for their lives. We empower them to seek out the available resources and to be engaged in their present and see the possibilities and opportunities for their future.
