Com·pete (verb) 1. strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same.
Com·plete (adjective) 1. having all the necessary or appropriate parts.
Pause and look closer at these two words…do you see what the difference is?
Once you noticed what it is, like me; you will probably catch yourself smiling. Ahh, the letter ‘L’. For me this meant that without the ‘Lord’ in our lives we have a tendency to compete with one another. One of the many reasons why we would do this is because it covers up our own insecurities. Within ourselves we feel incomplete, defeated and think that in our striving we will gain respect or be noticed.
Now I’m not blind to the fact that there can be healthy competition. But the difference is, when competition is operated in a negative manner, one person wants to shine, it’s all about ‘me’ not ‘we’. When competing in a healthy manner, we will continue to operate as a team…if I win; we all win!
So rise and shine my friend, you have all the necessary and appropriate parts, you are more than enough. If you are gonna strive, if you want to gain or win…compete if you must, but do it in a healthier manner and you’ll find that we are stronger together!
