His Will, Not Mine!

Sometimes a good idea isn’t a God idea—and sometimes the timing just isn’t right.

After spending time with God last evening, I woke up to the devotion for Sunday, October 25, Fruitful Work, based on Psalm 90:17 (NIV) Scripture, which bore witness to my heart. May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.

I’ve found that just because Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ Jesus,” doesn’t mean that I am to do everything! Pause and think about that!

I’ve been thinking lately about how easy it is to get so busy doing what we think God wants us to do that we forget to stop and ask Him.

Can I be honest with you for a moment?

So, I made a decision to PAUSE and PRAY.

Recently, I was working on a project I was really excited about. I had invested time, energy, and resources into it. I believed it was something good that could encourage others and bring glory to God.

But as the deadline got closer, something just didn’t feel right. I was rushing to get things done, and I didn’t have peace about it.

So, I made a decision to PAUSE and PRAY.

And wouldn’t you know it? God met me right where I was! When I finally surrendered the project and stopped trying to make everything happen, His peace filled my heart and mind.

Philippians 4:7 reminds us that God’s peace goes beyond our understanding. And that’s exactly what I experienced!

But it also made me ask myself:

Was I so busy trying to do something FOR God that I forgot to ask what God wanted ME to do?

I’m learning that everything good isn’t necessarily my assignment, and even when it is, it doesn’t mean it’s the right time.

Sometimes God may be saying, “Not yet.” Occasionally He may be leading us in another direction. And sometimes we simply need to be still and trust Him.

Jesus gave us the perfect example when He prayed, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42, KJV).

Now, that’s surrender!

Pausing doesn’t mean failing. Waiting doesn’t mean quitting. And surrendering doesn’t mean giving up on God.

Psalm 90:17 reminds us to ask God to establish the work of our hands. Notice, we’re asking HIM to establish it. We don’t have to rush it, force things, or figure everything out ourselves.

And here’s what I want you to remember: Pausing doesn’t mean failing. Waiting doesn’t mean quitting. And surrendering doesn’t mean giving up on God.

Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is stop, pray, and trust His timing.

To be honest, I’d rather pause and be in God’s will than rush ahead in my own.

Pause and Ponder: Remember, sisters, we don’t have to figure everything out today. We just need to trust the One who already knows tomorrow.

Until next time—keep pausing, keep praying, and keep trusting.

With love and prayers,
