Thanks-Giving

A new study shows that 65 percent of Americans would like an alternative to turkey on the table this year. The fascinating new statistic emerged in a new survey of 2,000 Americans around all things concerning Thanksgiving, which also crowned ham (60 percent), chicken (41 percent) and roast beef (37 percent) as the most popular alternatives to turkey.

This article reminded me of several thanksgivings where we too had an unconventional meal. At first it felt kind of strange, but after we found out that it didn’t matter what was on the table; but who was around the table.

Pausing With God Ministries is thankful for their donors, sponsors and all of you who continue to support the mission that we are entrusted with and we pray that you and your family may experience precious memories during this holiday season.

PAUSE & SAY HI:

Hidden Gem

I have lived in Florida for over 20 years and this weekend I found a gem!

As the founder of Pausing With God Ministries our mission is to Encourage, Empower and Engage Women.

So when I heard that Silk C Day Spa was having its website launch today I didn’t give it take a second thought to go and show support. I stepped over the threshold and the royal decor captured my attention, but what made me hang around for a few hours, purchase the Black Girl Sunscreen and schedule my soft tissue massage was the staff. The manner of personal attention that they took with each client is a lost art. They explained the benefits of their products and procedures.

Their motto is: “When you receive services at Silk C Day Spa you will see and feel a difference. Our skin therapists are very methodical and caring. You truly will feel like it’s your spa!”

Who would have thought this hidden gem was in my backyard for 6 years.

Self care is the order of the day and we women and men (yes they have services for men) cannot afford not to take care of ourselves.

So I highly encourage you to pause and take advantage of the holiday specials…or purchase stocking stuffers but most of all call or visit their website https://silk-c-day-spa.square.site/  and treat yourself – you are worth it!

PAUSE & SAY HI:

Pausing To Invite

Earlier this year the Lord allowed me to facilitate (online & in person) Bible Study: Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer.

We came in with our bags full of worry, doubt, confusion, depression, anger and negative thoughts.

I wanted to pause and share one of the participants testimony, in hopes that you can be encouraged, empowered and become engaged in using the Word of God in the battlefield that may be going on in your mind.

I am glad for the invitation to the Bible study. I’d heard of the Battlefield of the Mind book before, but never read it.

A few months before, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me that I can’t have fear for where He wants me to go. I knew all about taking our thoughts captive to the word of God, but this study was timely and exposed some wilderness mentalities and negative  self-talk.

The timing of this study was perfect and I could see God’s hand in this. By the end of the six weeks of school were during some challenging courses and time spent in the Bible Study assisted me in following Gods’ leading in the direction to go further in my education, even though it would add on two more semesters.

From the beginning  of the Bible study, I noticed I was thinking what I’m going through can be a testimony to show others that this mountain can be climbed, a mindset that I don’t not common for me.

Overall, I’m glad for the invitation because the overall the book and various wilderness mentalities like ‘My future is determined by my past’ and ‘Please make everything easy for me’ resonated with me.  Verses mentioned in the book like Hebrews Chapter 4, verse 16 and Galatians Chapter 6, verse 9; encouraged me to not give up when things were challenging.

Also the discussions about God not taking us out to an ocean to just drop us off there and rising above challenges with eagle wings was encouraging.

I did ended up passing some challenging courses  right during the last week of the Bible study and my self talk was not by might or power, but by the Spirit of the Lord. I’m really amazed and grateful of God’s timing and how He is preparing and strengthening me now and for the future by using this Bible study.

The World Needs

What The World Needs Now Is to Pause & Be Still and Know That He Is Still God!

A sequel to Pausing with God: A Journey through Menopause. Sheri Powell has recently published her second book Pausing with God: A Shut-In Experience. In both selections, Sheri reveals the importance of pausing with God; now she’s encouraging us to make it a lifestyle. She communicates in a simplistic manner that no matter what season of life we find ourselves, when we take the time to pause in His presence, we will discover peace that passes all understanding. In Pausing In His Presence we find that we have everything we need to have a Romans 8:28 experiences. Pausing With God was the beginning, Pausing In His Presence motivates us to make communing with God (prayer) a way of life.

Move

Most of you that know me, understand that though I live in the south, I will always be a city girl, so bugs are not my best friend. Sure, we have bugs in the city, but they aren’t as brave as these southern bells, I mean bugs.

Recently I was riding my bike, minding my own business. As I am making my way down the sidewalk, there were these reptiles that took upon themselves to inhabit my path. They would sit directly in my way, acting like a squirrel who in the middle of the street, observes oncoming cars while they decide which way they will go. Unbeknownst to any of us, putting their lives on the line; waiting till the last minute to make a move.

Anyways back to the story…so I’m riding my bike. Like I said, minding my own business and I see the little buggers staring at me – double daring me to come closer. So, guess what I did, I kept pedaling, triple daring them to stay put.

Upside Down

Shhhhhhh, listen; as another school year ends, can you hear the parents, teachers and faculty yelling ‘We did it!’ You all have been through the ringer. From transitioning to instructing kids from their homes to returning back to the classrooms. Yes, You did it!

Before we let you shut down the building for a few months, we are trying to make one last visit. I have three grands who bring such joy to my heart. Today was grand number two’s turn. The night before, her mom shared that she should expect a surprise at lunch time. My inquisitive grand tried to guess, but her mom wasn’t given in no matter how many times she blurted out the wrong response.

On the way to grand number two’s school, I daydreamed about what kind of facial expression we were going to see displayed on her face. I pulled in the school parking lot, got out the car and hurriedly walked in the front door and checked in. After I was directed to lunch area, I sat down. I thought hmm, maybe I’ll record her expression, but I knew it was a no-no to film other peoples’ kids without permission. So, I sat, waited and watched as other adults, possibly moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas, nanas or pop-pops showed up. I lifted my shoulders up to my ear, it didn’t really matter who they were; no doubt it would be a special time for whoever belonged to them.

Knock Out

On February 25, 1964, 22-year-old Cassius Clay known as Muhammad Ali shocks the odds-makers by dethroning world heavyweight boxing champ Sonny Liston in a seventh-round technical knockout.

The dreaded Liston, who had twice demolished former champ Floyd Patterson in one round, was an 8-to-1 favorite. However, Clay predicted victory, boasting that he would “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” and knock out Liston in the eighth round.

On this day Muhammad Ali made history, may you be encouraged that no matter the round you may find yourself in, put up your arms and begin to punched your way through.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:13, that we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us!

Today is Knock Out Friday….go get em’!

One Letter

Com·pete (verb) 1. strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same.

Com·plete (adjective) 1. having all the necessary or appropriate parts.

Pause and look closer at these two words…do you see what the difference is?

Once you noticed what it is, like me; you will probably catch yourself smiling. Ahh, the letter ‘L’. For me this meant that without the ‘Lord’ in our lives we have a tendency to compete with one another. One of the many reasons why we would do this is because it covers up our own insecurities. Within ourselves we feel incomplete, defeated and think that in our striving we will gain respect or be noticed.
